I praise Hermes of the threshold, Hermes who stands
watch by every home, who guards every gate.
Hermes who keeps safe from harm the households of men,
Hermes who knows the scoundrel and the thief, who knows
them as no other, who knows best the way to drive
all villains from the door, defend my home from all ill,
allow no evil to enter. Hermes, granter
of wit and wile, make of me an able foe
to any who wish me harm. Hermes, I pray to you,
I ask your blessing, grant me your favor

A prayer for work
Hermes, God of coins, God of tongues and commerce,
Loosen my tongue and make it silver
Shower me with gold, bless my upturned hands and plate my tongue so I may do your names justice.
A prayer for safety
I pray, small under the gaze of the Gods, that they may bless me with the weapons I need to inflict my heart’s fury
If I cannot yet be an armored daughter of Penthesileia, let me be a mare to pull the chariot of war until I grow in my ability to serve as a warrior.
I plead grant me your favor, Deimos, so I may strike dread into the hearts of men.
Bless me, Phobos, and turn yourself from my heart and instead into the hearts of men.
Ares guide my hand and gird me with courage so I may face my enemies with the fire of your essence.
Artemis, I pray you watch over me as you preserve your nymphs.
Enyo, look upon me favorably and take me to be a daughter of your arts and clamor.

Aphrodite open my heart, and cut off the heads of those who would seek to poison it, for you know of all the matters of the heart.
Hermes, make swift my feet and clever my being, to escape when I cannot raise my spear.
A prayer to Ares for blessing and protection
Ares Polemistes Talaurinus, I pray for you to take me under your brazen shield;
gird me in a belt of courage as you did your daughter Hippolyte.
Ares Oxys, put in my hand a bronze spear so I may spill the blood of men
Ares Obrimus allow me to put my small feet in the vast hollows of your footsteps,
Laossous rally my heart with the sound of your mighty spear beating against your shield
Gynaecothoenas allow me, maiden, to stand strong, a child amazon desirous of your favor and strength
Grant me the mindfulness to destroy those who seek to take from me-
watch over me in your fury as you did Alkippe.
Guide the strength of my hand and weight of my blow so they may strike to the very quick of my enemy
Miaephonus stain me with the blood of men, my open mouth accepts it as honey and bread; feed me.
Open me to my own violence, so I may inflict war upon the predatory hand and eyes
Let me fly as a hawk and strike as a poisonous serpent so men may know that I serve the god of blood and war.
Prayers in flight
Three prayers written while on a plane home, after several miracles of luck and timing coinciding to let me catch a flight on far too short a layover. Most prayers I feel very private about, but these felt meant to be shared.

snow along the forest floor gleams where
the light hits it through the evergreens
and in our memories, quick to fade
it seems like the glow of starlit bows
those arcs we have not seen for seasons
there are no footprints in the drifts
but the twins were never that easy to track
and the only sign that they are parted
is howls at a dark moon that grow quieter
bears that choose to slumber through sorrow
the twins chased summer over hillsides
and shot it with shafts of shattered light
the brother moved north, the sister sleeps
and all we have left is the cold winter sun-16.12.15 [to artemis and apollon]
Prayer to Hephaestus
He, the Sooty God, who’s thundering forges melt metal and earth
Skillful, quickfingered god who has granted me favor
I thank you with these offerings of frankincense
I offer you sweet wine
I offer you the meat and fat of the thigh
I pray my words have reached your ears, small words on small wings
Heard under the blows of your mighty hammer
Each time I light my kiln, rough fingered God, I thank you

Maiden born of Sea,
Goddess of radiant beauty,

From the cestus on thy waist to thy golden hair. Both men and god alike will fall to your will,
