So I have been working on astral projection for the last couple of days, and a few days ago I got so far as to leave my body. But as I was right above it something came from my chest/gut and yanked my spirit back into my body. I shot upright and came to immediately. It freaked me out I haven’t been able to get anywhere near that since. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thepaganstudygrouppage:

Your problem here is that your astral is trying to fly from your body but your body is trying to keep tight hold.  I suggest getting a tether.  A simple white or silver cord, ribbon, rope and tie it around the wrist of your dominant hand.  This will keep you tied to your body so you can move further away without any mishaps.  -side note- The longer the cord the further you can travel.

Ok, this looks really helpful because I have the same exact problem. Gonna try it

im having trouble astral projecting, i was close to doing so in the past, but i woke up. is there something i can make or have with me before i start, or do, that can help me achieve astral projection?

the-darkest-of-lights:

Be mindful about going into the astral, it’s not a need to travel , and be careful it’s not all candy and sunshine there. But if you believe that you are ready to take the steps needed to get across the hedge. It may take time before you get across but don’t get discouraged.

EVERYTHING ON ASTRAL PROJECTION

Insidious Chapter 2, is now on Netflex and it inspired me to make this post, on astral projection.

So astral projection is when your soul floats out of your body, and you’re in the realm between earth and the other side.

I’ve never tried this my self, but after readings I made this:

HOW TO ASTRAL PROJECT

Get rid of any fears you have: Are you scared of encountering a demon ? Scared of irrational things such as what if you can’t get back in your body ? Get rid of them. Learn to over-come them. Nothing will hurt you on the other side and the silver cord between you and your body can’t be broken.

Do it after you wake up in the morning: Set your alarm clock an hour early so you feel a bit drowsy

Relax your body: Let the tension out, get rid of any random thoughts. Relax.

Imagine: Focus on a specific part of your body (your toes) and imagine that it’s moving (curling your toes) but don’t physically do it. Spread out slowly to the rest of your body.

Imagine again: Imagine yourself getting up and moving around your room while your still lying down.

Vibrations: You should feel vibrations. It’s trying to channel you into the astral plane.

Practice: The above steps take a lot of practice and patience. Once you’ve managed to do it. Have fun and be safe. Explore the world and even outer space.

Getting back into your body: The silver cord will always guide you back.

Here’s a website that has more information

DANGERS OF ASTRAL PROJECTION

Don’t do this if you have severe mental problems (depression, anxiety). It’s just no good. Your negative energy will probably attract other negative beings.

Your body: Alright, so this is common sense but your body is still vulnerable. If someone were to come in and stab you, you will die, and the silver cord will be severed. Make sure you’re in a safe place when you astral project.

Possession: So this is a huge question and I’m sorry that I can’t tell you that something like this can never happen. But if it did, it’s an unheard case. Don’t let movies like Insidious scare you.

The techniques of possession is very difficult and you’d have to be willing to let a demon in with open arms. Possession is something that can happen when you are still in your body too, remember that. This is why ouija boards are so bad.

Astral Beings: When your out exploring the world, you might see some creatures of different kinds. Some of them are pleasant but some might be down-right terrifying. Just don’t talk to them or even look their way.

They will try to feed off your energy leaving you feeling depressed for the next couple of days. If they try to approach you, snap back into your body.

Hedgecrossing with Stag

stagkingswife:

Hedgecrossing or astral travel for me can begin very much like meditation.  It can be practiced like a guided meditation or a visualization exercise, but that visualization takes on a life of its own and instead of creating the world around you the world is independent and you react to it

Now when I say visualization I don’t mean just sitting still and trying to picture things, if that works for you great, but it doesn’t work for a lot of people. Try to engage as many of your senses as you can:  see things, hear ambient noises, smell the air, feel earth under your feet and the wind on your face. Practice this until you get super comfortable with this. Take yourself on walks around your neighborhood or through your favorite park.  As you get more comfortable with this you may start to notice things happening or appearing that you didn’t create or that you can’t control. In my experience these weird occurrences is the Otherworlds leaking over into your visualization.  Get comfortable with this happening, learn how to differentiate between what exists on its own and what is a creation of your mind.   When you feel confident with this it’s time to be moving on.  This is when you start trying to get across the Hedge, the Veil, whatever you want to call the boarder between this world and others.

When I sit down to intentionally leave my body and travel to the Otherworlds I have a standard path I take.  This is how I generally teach people to begin crossing the Hedge, and so far it’s been successful.  It goes like this:

  1. Get yourself into a light trance like state.  Do this however works for you, dancing, drumming, whatever.

  2. Once in you begin to feel a little detached from your body, maybe a little numb, a little dizzy, proceed with your usual meditation ritual, play your music, sit or lie however you want, burn incense, however you’ve been practicing.

  3. Begin by visualizing stepping out of your body.  Turn around and look at it, see it exactly where you left it, waiting for you to come back into it.  Walk out of the room you’re in, out of the building, and onto the street.

  4. Walk down the street until you come to the nearest intersection or crossroad.

  5. At that intersection, instead of the usual buildings or or landscape you see a train station.

  6. Walk up to the platform and wait for the next train.  When it comes to the station get on, the conductor will ask where you’re going, tell them where you want to go. The train will take you there.

  7. Practice!  The more you practice the better you’ll get at navigating the Otherworlds, and the easier it will become.

This of course isn’t the only way to get to the Otherworlds, this is just how I do it.  I’ve always had a harder time staying in this world than getting to the Otherworlds, so it’s very easy for me to begin with a little visualization and let the Otherworlds take over.

What can you tell me about astral travel, and how is it done?

thetwistedrope:

It’s hard to boil down the astral into a single descriptive term because there are so many ways and possibilities that there really are no hard or fast rules for what it means to travel or how to get there.

The shortest explanation I can give is that astral travel is the act of accessing Unseen or non-physical planes. But even that isn’t quite right because some people end up remote-viewing this physical plane that we live in. And some planes that you may access via astral travel are physical in their nature as well. Some travelers manage to get onto the astral and end up only visiting one plane ever. And some travelers end up plane hopping regularly.

A general note regarding astral travel: the act of traveling is not mandatory for pagans, and isn’t something that has ever been wide-spread in history (aka not everyone is cut out to do it). If anyone tells you that you need to access the astral, they are talking out their ass. Simple as that.

Astral travel is a huge point of conflict here on Tumblr because half of the community thinks we’re a bunch of crazy people who just want to feel special, and so they don’t take us seriously. And the other half of the community thinks we’re trying to put ourselves on a pedestal and gets angry because they can’t travel. So the strife that often comes with astral travel gets trivialized and everyone feels like shit all around.

There are tons of ways to get there. Some popular methods involve drugs or alcohol. Others involve strict dietary restrictions and purity restrictions before accessing the astral. Others involve pushing your body to its limits. And some people just accidentally fall into the astral. Astral travel can happen while awake or while asleep. Some people are capable of both methods, some people are only able to do one or the other. The ability to travel will vary from practitioner to practitioner. Some people’s connections are very solid and they have the ability to access the astral like clock work. Other people’s abilities are more restricted, and so their access is limited. In both cases, sometimes your ability to travel can just shut off for no reason because the universe is a troll. Again, no hard or fast rules in this situation. Additionally, each astral traveler will have their own limitations and skill sets. For example, I can barely see over there, and I require assistance with moving around large locations or busy places.

I learned how to astral travel by accident. It started when I used to dance until I couldn’t stand, which opened up my ability to receive weird visions. And when I was driven to the edge a few years ago, I fell into the “astral proper” and it’s been a whirlwind since then.

For more resources, I’ve got some links:

For those who want to know, I house all of my astral links here. I try to add to the list regularly.

Unfortunately there is so much to cover with the astral, it’s hard to make a succinct write up about what it is or what it entails, but hopefully this covers some of it.

Astral Guide: Starter Pack

winkingwyvern:

Astral traveling has been a part of my path since the first day I started and has only grown. I am able to meet and speak with the spirits and gods I work with, do spell work, do healing, and a large amount of other work in the astral. I worked almost every night before bed, unknowingly to me at first, to get where I am at now. I was going to make a long “how to” on astral travel, but simplicity is better. If you have any questions or need me to elaborate on anything, please don’t be hesitant to send me an ask. I could write ten pages to better explain how I work in the astral but no one will read that, so asking for me to elaborate is definitely fine with me!

Before you start:

  • Astral traveling does not equal astral projection.
  • In astral projection you fully leave your body but while astral traveling you do not.
  • In astral projection you view everything with crystal clear imagery but while astral traveling you do not.
  • Have you ever done a guided meditation? Did you know you were pretty much astrally traveling? In fact, if you have never astrally traveled before, try out a guided meditation so you can get an idea of what you should be “seeing” in your mind’s eye. The next step will be to drop the guided meditation and do it for yourself.
  • First, learn how to visualize. If you can’t visualize, you can’t travel in the astral. There are no ways around it. This website is the most clear and concise way to learn how to visualize. The level three exercise there is what you will need to learn how to do in order to travel in the astral. If you have a hard time visualizing, start at the level one exercise. Once you have learned how to visualize, try the exercise below.

Easy starter method for dipping your toes into astral traveling:

  1. Make sure you are comfortable and in a room where you will not be distracted
  2. Set up the protection you need around you
  3. Ask any spirits you want to accompany you to do so
  4. Think of what you want to do in the astral. If you want to meet a spirit, specify that. If you just want to explore, you don’t have to think about what you want to do and you can just enjoy exploring.
  5. Get on YouTube and look up “forest sounds”. Find one you like and put it on with headphones.
  6. Close your eyes, ground, center, breathe – do whatever you do to get into a meditative state.
  7. Now start to imagine that you’re in a forest. The sounds you are hearing from the video are the sounds the forest is making.
  8. Walk around and explore. As you continue, stop forcing your imagination to see where you’re going and start letting your mind’s eye truly start viewing where you are at on it’s own. If you wanted to meet a spirit there, ask it to meet you there. Don’t worry if you don’t end up seeing the spirit you want to meet there. Sometimes they will be around just through a feeling and will want to let you explore the astral on your own without visually distracting you.
  9. When you feel you’re done, thank any spirits that were involved with the process (if they were) and wiggle your fingers and toes. Open your eyes and head off to eat or drink something to ground yourself.

Yes, that’s literally it. It is truly that simple. Get used to visualization and get used to wandering around a space in the astral you have created. For instance, the forest you were just in within that exercise is yours. These are the foundations you need to learn and get comfortable with. Soon you can visit places that truly exist in the astral, rather than creations of your own.

What can you do in the astral?

You can create a sanctuary, visit with spirits, heal your own energy – the amount of things you can do is unlimited. Do you want to do a spell in the astral? Craft the ingredients out of the energy around you. Yes, this seriously works! Spells done in the astral are just as potent (if not more potent, if you know what you’re doing) than spells we do on our physical plane. The most important thing is to not doubt what you are doing and have true intent. I have done some heavy spell work in the astral that worked extremely well to gain results on our physical realm. The exciting thing about doing spells in the astral is that you can actually have your spirit companions or gods visually next to you to aid you. You can also craft up offerings and altar spaces for your gods and spirit companions there.

You are not limited while you are in the astral. You can take on any form you want in the astral (this is called your vehicle). You can surround yourself with the elements and weather you want in the astral. Do you need it to be storming while you do a spell? You can make it storm. The stronger your visualization skills are, the more you can do. That’s why you have to work at it often. Within your own created space, you can allow spirits to visit. You can ward your sanctuary and allow your spiritual guides and friends to visit. There are no limits! Just be smart about it.

Useful links to further illustrate what I’m talking about:

Tips and extras:

  • Don’t doubt what you see
  • Work at it everyday
  • Make use of herbs of crystals that will aid in visualization
  • Always set up protection beforehand
  • Also set up protection around your sanctuary if you build one
  • Ask your gods or any spirits you trust to guide you as you travel
  • Don’t limit yourself to what you can do there

When traveling outside of a space you created yourself (aka the whole wide world of the astral), tread carefully and be smart.

What do you think about Astral Travel/Projection? And have you ever tried it yourself?

driftwood-in-the-sun:

grimoire-of-geekery:

Ok, so first off- I have to clarify something.

Astral projection isn’t the same thing as astral travel.  Astral projection is the projection of part (or sometimes the whole) of one’s “astral body” forth from one’s regular body.  This is done in remote viewing (usually just projecting the senses rather than the whole form), possession of objects (also called force projection), and a whole host of other practices (shapeshifting, along with many of a witch’s tricks, to name a few).

Astral travel is traveling through the astral.  Usually this is done via one’s astral body (and sometimes we have more than one, depending on what trad you’re working with, for example the “fetch/fylgja” practice often speaks of having a co-walker), but not always.  And also, this can mean traveling in astral form through the physical world, but again, not always.

And yes, I’ve done both.  I don’t know that there’s much to “think” about it- it’s a pretty handy trick if you can learn to do it properly.  And some of the results can be hilarious.  While learning to shapeshift (I was 14 and grounded for two weeks, so I was bored and had occult books, which is a dangerous combo), I went forth as a black cat and wandered the town (and consequently, my house) a lot.  Unfortunately for my mother’s sanity, she could “see” me out of the corner of her eye.  So convinced was she that my sister had somehow snuck a cat into the house, she actually put food out to try and catch it.

That’s how I learned that my mom was more than a card reader, and that magic didn’t necessarily mean “I read books and did exercises and now I’m magical.”  Sometimes magic was just indwelling and people didn’t always know how to control or even understand their own magic.

So, I learned some valuable stuff from astral projection.

To my readers: if you want to learn full-on out-of-body astral projection and you’re having trouble doing so, don’t despair.  Most witches I’ve spoken to have the same trouble (and the ones who don’t usually have some of their points on their character sheet spent in “spiritworker” or “shaman” as well).

Try reaching out with your mind and heart and remembering the smell and feel of your mother’s hair, or a tree from your yard, or the feel of the water from a fountain nearby.  When you can let yourself feel it and partially “be” there, that’s you projecting your senses, and that’s astral projection.

Hopefully that helped!

this is a very very good tip.
