I’m sure this person is referencing the play Hippolytus by Euripedes. Which, may I remind everyone, is a play written by a HUMAN MAN and is NOT a sole universal truth.
Let me give an excerpt from Aphrodite’s monologue at the beginning;
“For even in the race of gods this feeling finds a home, even pleasure at the honour men pay them. You understand why Hippolytus is punished by Aphrodite?
Because he refuses to acknowledge her as a powerful goddess; dismisses her majesty as a member of the Theoi and that is hubris.
Not the fact that he’s chaste and refuses to marry. Aphrodite could care less about who you do or do not get in bed with as long as you RESPECT her!
