last month Trump signed an executive order that calls for “revamping” public assistance programs like Medicaid, food stamps, and housing assitance. (is it to anyone’s surprise that this comes after passing a tax bill that is aimed at giving money to the rich and stealing it from the poor?)
In Congress, House Republicans unveiled a provision in the 2018 farm
bill to expand mandatory work requirements in the food stamp program. The Farm Bill is one of those bills that should be non-political, because it’s renewed every five years to keep farmers up-to-date. It also is in charge of food assistance programs. SNAP is THE MOST effective policy in America fighting against hunger and starvation. the GOP has taken this and turned it political, because fuck poor people.this means that food stamps are going to have harsher work requirements and more paperwork. 1-2 mistakes on your paperwork can be enough to starve you and your family for years.
SNAP will now require recipients to prove they have worked enough hours to qualify for the program by submitting statements at the end of EVERY MONTH. if a person fails to do so, they’ll lose benefits for A FULL YEAR. The new burdens Trump and the GOP want could lock poor families out of
the food the need for YEARS for just two mistakes on your applications.And fixing those mistakes is almost impossible.
this is going to kill people by starvation.
