i think my favorite thing about ovid’s metamorphoses (aside from being a great source for greco-roman myth) is the fact that, in the section about actaeon getting killed by his hunting dogs, ovid literally just. starts naming all of actaeon’s dogs. he names something like 35 dogs. roughly 17% of the section about actaeon is dedicated exclusively to naming his dogs (which, by the way, have names like whitey, barky, and spot) and i’d just like to say that ovid definitely has his priorities straight
