A thought I had @ work today:

Thunderstorms at night are Zeus’s way of trying to sing lullabies/comfort his worshippers enough to sleep.

Unfortunately, his voice is too loud for whispering and when he tries to sooth us, the whole house shakes. Lightning emits when he reaches out to brush the hair from our faces and blows out the power.

Sometimes, he has to settle for letting the patter of the rain against our roof sing for him. A melody shifting in its pattern and frequency every so often in the way a parent’s voice will when feeling little bodies go limp in their arms for too short a time.
