so these are literally metal as fuck

You’ll notice that, unlike most double-edged straight swords, it has a squared-off tip. The blade also doesn’t taper at all. while you might think “yeah, you’re not stabbing the guy, you’re cutting his head off” it also distributes the weight of the weapon farther away from the handle, giving its swing more momentum and follow-through. Normally, the center of gravity on a sword this shape is about 1/3 of the way down the blade, closer to the hilt. this makes the weapon more agile, easier to handle. A European-style executioner’s sword is weighted more towards the blade because, when used properly, it requires only a single, practiced strike.
