So here I am reading a book on moon spells, and it has very helpful information: time of day associations, ways to tap into the energy of the moon, directional associations. But then all of a sudden there’s this lovely tidbit:
“Do not cast spells too often. It should be done for special occasions and for special reasons if you really take it seriously.”
I cast spells all day long. Little magics in my tea, in my food, house witchery, kitchen witchery, setting intentions before I begin tasks. Magic and spells are part of my life, even into my subconscious as I don’t always recognize I’m doing it anymore.
You do not need an author of a book on Moon Spells (or whatever) to suddenly dictate what you should or should not do with your practice “if you really take it seriously”.
Even that childish rhetoric “if you really take it seriously” makes me put down this book and walk away.
Edit: I did flip through the rest of the book, and it was filled with the importance of casting a circle (You must absolutely cast a circle in every single working), etc, and more ridiculous blanket statements about what a witch MUST do if they consider themselves a witch.
No one needs this ridiculousness. If you ever find a book that is not just providing informative information but seems to branch into defining what your practice MUST be, what a serious witch needs to do to be a serious witch, or any of that dribble,
Put it down slowlyTHROW IT OUT THE NEAREST WINDOW.
