Greek Hellenic Polytheists who live in Greece will obviously see it differently, but seeing as I am an American Hellenic Polytheist worshiping the gods within an American context, it is important for me to portray them as if they could be any person I plucked off the street.
Because when the gods come to visit, they rarely come in a beam of light or a shower of gold. Oftentimes they are the person you will least expect, disguised as the common person who you might just look over as unimportant. That means for me, since I live in a country of many peoples and many races, they are just as likely to visit me with the faces of people of many races. It would be weird for me, for where I live and what people surround me, to experience them showing themselves as just one race and one only.
It’s all about putting these things into a context that makes sense for you. But it’s also important to remember we’re making these pictures for the people that see them too. The worshipers of these gods deserve to see their gods with their own faces too.
