made some prayer beads today for Hermes in his role as the liminal opener of ways (Psychopompos and Friend of Man and Ouranic Messenger). i need to eventually restring them with stronger material, and i’m not happy with the clasp, but overall i’m pleased. i’ve never beaded before and it’s pretty soothing!
How did you choose the color combo? I ask because I totally associate Hermes with turquoise, and I see you used it.
Hmm that’s a good question, and I don’t know if I have a good answer haha! I wanted colours that could represent Hermes as a deity who moves from the Olympic to Mortal to Underworld realms. The big beads look like little Earths, so it makes me think of Hermes moving between worlds! Turquoise is just a…fluid…colour that is reminiscent of the heavens and ocean and earth, so it works for a “bright” version of liminal Hermes 🙂
I did almost buy iridescent black beads instead for a more mystical chthonic feel, but Hermes Argeiphontes is a strong current in my worship, and the turquoise/gold mixes remind me of peacocks and Argos.
(Also, turquoise is just a special stone in my family!)
I totally feel that blue/teal/turquoise aesthetic for Hermes. Nice beads!
