What exactly is a “hard polytheist” vs. a “soft polytheist”?
it’s a bit of a spectrum, but generally speaking, a hard polytheist is one who believes every god is their own separate autonomous being, and a soft polytheist is a person who believes gods are aspects of a divine whole, or that some gods are the same with different names e.g. athene being the same god as minerva
Ah, that makes sense. Thank you for the explanation!
Erm, is it okay if you’re not really sure which one you are?
Yes it is Pinkwitchy! And that’s why I”m glad iamidae mentioned it being a “spectrum” because some people are “plasma” or “squishy” polytheists. For instance, they may think Athena and Minerva are one and the same, but that Athena isn’t the same as Brighid the same as Isis same etc.
A very good definition. Thank you.
