As a Hellenic witch, how do you feel about depiction of the gods in pop culture? Does it offend you or do you just ignore it?

Pop culture, pop culture…. I’d have to say both. I’ll give you three examples of varying degrees.

First
you’ve got Disney’s Hercules. Inaccurate, but adorable, the very
cleaned up, reworked version, as Disney tends to do. I would be torn
showing it to baby Hellenics because the huge inaccuracies could cause
confusion, but I find it inoffensive.

Second
is Percy Jackson. I don’t know much about it, so it’s really just an
annoyance to me- but I find Rick Riordan‘s attitude particularly
grating. He puts down worshipers as nonexistent or delusional, and at
the same time turns a profit off of his fanfiction of our religion.

But
God of War, which I had the storyline explained to me, I take pure
offense to. I recently had the pleasure of seeing the POV scene in which
the main character kills Poseidon in a fashion so violent that I
couldn’t even look. And I ate dinner all through the first Saw movie.
Balls, man. They have Balls.

So I feel varying degrees of annoyed/offended, yes. But is there anything I can actually do about it? No. Not really. Maybe I’m a pessimist.
