I am an apple nerd. I’m very particular about how I like my apples, and whenever there’s a new variety in the store, I have to try it.
Last week’s fave: the Sweetango apple. Crisp, sweet, and tangy without being as acidic as a granny smith. Flesh is reminiscent of the Honeycrisp when it first came out, and somewhat starchy. Its aesthetically pleasing, with vivid candy apple reds and yellows and when pressed, the flesh is unyielding and it snaps when you flick it. Perfect apple, honestly.
This week’s new variety: the Sonya apple. Long in the vein of a pearmain apple, nice snap, haven’t yet tasted it. I’ll let you know.
